At Hearthstone, our home textiles are crafted from premium, natural fibers designed to bring lasting luxury and comfort to your daily routines. Proper care and maintenance are essential not only to preserve the exquisite softness, absorbency, and aesthetic of your duvet covers, towels, robes, and bath mats, but also to ensure they grow even better with time.
Please follow our comprehensive care guidelines below for each collection category.
1. Organic Cotton & Linen Duvet Covers
Our duvet covers are engineered for breathability and effortless elegance. To maintain their weave integrity and color vibrancy:
-
Washing Frequency: Wash every 1 to 2 weeks, depending on personal preference, to maintain a fresh sanctuary environment.
-
Water Temperature: Machine wash on a gentle or delicate cycle using cold water (maximum 30°C / 85°F). Avoid hot water, which can weaken natural fibers and cause shrinkage or fiber distortion.
-
Detergent Selection: Use a mild, pH-neutral liquid detergent. Never use chlorine bleach, optical brighteners, or harsh chemical detergents, as these strip natural fibers and degrade colorfastness. Do not pour detergent directly onto dry fabric; dilute it in the water first.
-
Drying: Line drying in the shade is ideal for preserving long-term fiber strength and minimizing environmental impact. Alternatively, tumble dry on low heat or air fluff and remove promptly while slightly damp to minimize wrinkles. Avoid over-drying.
-
Ironing & Storage: Linen and organic cotton naturally develop a relaxed, lived-in texture. If a crisper look is desired, iron on a warm steam setting while the fabric is slightly damp. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space away from direct, prolonged sunlight.
2. Luxury Bath Towels & Guest Linens
Designed for maximum plushness and high absorbency, our towels require specific laundering steps to prevent fiber stiffening:
-
Initial Wash: Wash your new Hearthstone towels separately before first use to remove any residual lint and activate maximum absorbency.
-
Water Temperature: Machine wash on a warm or normal cycle using mild detergent.
-
The Fabric Softener Warning: Avoid all liquid fabric softeners and dryer sheets. Fabric softeners coat cotton loops with a microscopic wax/silicone film that dramatically reduces absorbency and traps moisture, leading to stiffness and musty odors over time. Instead, add a half-cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle every few washes to naturally restore fluffiness.
-
Drying: Tumble dry on medium heat until completely dry. Avoid high-heat cycles, which can scorch natural cotton fibers and cause premature thread breakage. Shake towels out before placing them in the dryer to maximize loft.
3. Loungewear Robes
Whether crafted from plush terry or lightweight weave, your Hearthstone robe is your go-to layer for relaxation:
-
Washing Preparation: Secure any detachable belts, close all buttons, or zip up any closures prior to washing to prevent snagging against other garments.
-
Cycle & Temperature: Wash on a delicate cycle in cold water with like colors.
-
Drying & Maintenance: Tumble dry on low heat or hang to dry. Avoid hanging heavy wet robes by their collar loops for extended periods while wet, as this can stretch and warp the neck seam over time; instead, drape them evenly across a drying rack.
4. Plush & Woven Bath Mats
Bath mats endure heavy daily friction, moisture exposure, and stepping pressure. Regular maintenance prevents mildew and keeps them looking pristine:
-
Washing Frequency: Wash every 3 to 5 days to prevent bacterial growth and maintain a fresh bathroom environment.
-
Cycle & Water Temp: Machine wash separately or with like heavy-weight bath items on a warm cycle. Use a mild detergent.
-
Backing Care (If Applicable): If your bath mat features a specialized non-slip backing, never tumble dry on high heat or expose to direct industrial heat sources, as this can melt or degrade the backing material. Always tumble dry on low or hang dry completely before placing back onto damp bathroom floors.
General Golden Rules for Hearthstone Textiles
-
Wash Like with Like: Separate your loads by color and fabric weight (e.g., wash dark duvet covers separately from white towels to prevent lint transfer and color bleeding).
-
Address Stains Immediately: Treat spills or organic stains promptly by blotting (never rubbing) with a mild cold-water solution before laundering.
-
Prevent Velcro and Zippers: Wash items with zippers (such as duvet closures) fully zipped and turned inside out, and completely separate from delicate looped towels to prevent pulled threads.
